Γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη το 1956. Αποφοίτησε από το Τμήμα Μηχανολόγων – Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών της Πολυτεχνικής Σχολής του Α.Π.Θ. το 1979. Αναγορεύτηκε Διδάκτορας του Τμήματος Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Υπολογιστών του Α.Π.Θ. το 1997. Απασχολείται από το 1981 σαν επιστημονικός συνεργάτης και αργότερα σαν Λέκτορας (1998-2006), Επίκουρος Καθηγητής (2006-2010), Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής (2010-2015) και Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Υπολογιστών του Α.Π.Θ. στον Τομέα Ηλεκτρικής Ενέργειας και στο Εργαστήριο Συστημάτων Ηλεκτρικής Ενέργειας.

Από το 2017 είναι Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Υπολογιστών του ΑΠΘ.

Εργάστηκε σαν εξωτερικός συνεργάτης στη βιομηχανία και σε εταιρείες συμβούλων επιχειρήσεων. Είναι μέλος του ΤΕΕ, της ΙΕΕΕ, του ΙΕΤ, της CIGRE, του ΣΜΗΒΕ, της ΕΕΔΕ και του ΕΙΠ.
