Γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη στις 26 Ιουλίου του 1958.

Έλαβε το δίπλωμα του Ηλεκτρολόγου Μηχανικού από την Πολυτεχνική Σχολή του Αριστοτέλειου Πανεπιστήμιου Θεσσαλονίκης (ΑΠΘ) το 1981. Έλαβε το Διδακτορικό Δίπλωμα από το Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών της Πολυτεχνικής Σχολής του Αριστοτέλειου Πανεπιστήμιου Θεσσαλονίκης το 1989 (τίτλος διδακτορικής διατριβής: Επίλυση του μη γραμμικού προβλήματος των πολλών ρευματοφόρων αγωγών με τη μέθοδο πεπερασμένων στοιχείων).

Από το 1982 έως το 2008 εργάστηκε αρχικά ως Επιστημονικός Συνεργάτης, στη συνέχεια ως Λέκτορας, Επίκουρος Καθηγητής και Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Υπολογιστών (ΤΗΜΜΥ) του ΑΠΘ.

Από το 2008 είναι Καθηγητής και από το 2010 Διευθυντής του Εργαστηρίου Συστημάτων Ηλεκτρικής Ενέργειας του ίδιου τμήματος. Κατά τα ακαδημαϊκά έτη 2003-2004 και 2004-2005 διετέλεσε Διευθυντής του Τομέα Ηλεκτρικής Ενέργειας του ΤΗΜΜΥ του ΑΠΘ. 

Έχει συγγράψει, μαζί με άλλους συγγραφείς, δυο επιστημονικά βιβλία και περισσότερα από 100 επιστημονικά άρθρα και ανακοινώσεις σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και συνέδρια. Έχει επιβλέψει πλέον των 100 διπλωματικών εργασιών καθώς και 6 διδακτορικές διατριβές του ΤΗΜΜΥ.

  • Ανάλυση συστημάτων ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας στη στάσιμη και στη μεταβατική κατάσταση λειτουργίας.

  • Προσομοίωση συστημάτων μεταφοράς και διανομής ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας.

  • Αυτοματοποίηση συστημάτων διανομής ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας.

  • Ανάλυση συζευγμένων ηλεκτρομαγνητικών και θερμοκρασιακών πεδίων.

  • Αριθμητικές μέθοδοι.

  • Εφαρμογές μεθόδων τεχνητής νοημοσύνης στα συστήματα μεταφοράς και διανομής ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας.

  • Επικοινωνίες μέσω γραμμών μεταφοράς και διανομής ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας.

  • Διανεμημένοι ενεργειακοί πόροι.
